“Maria Regina College intends to offer the best education possible.\u00a0 This is not possible if the basic needs are not being seen to.\u00a0 This is not possible if certain challenging behaviour is not taken care of, or if family problems create an internal imbalance.<\/p>\n

Members of the Maria Regina College psycho-social team support students in our schools to help them come to terms with any problems encountered and therefore be receptive and calm enough to make good use of the educational opportunities offered.\u00a0 Respect for all, good behaviour and other similar issues are seen to.<\/p>\n

Other members of the Psycho-social team work on one of the main ideas of the Mission Statement of the Ministry of Education, i.e. educating for employability. Still others offer various informal and non-formal activities and opportunities for a truly holistic education.”<\/p>\n

School Psychological Service<\/u><\/strong><\/h1>\n

School Psychological Services (SPS<\/strong>) strives to promote a healthy psycho-educational environment that facilitates the learning and development of children in schools.\u00a0 At SPS we provide a range of services which aim to help children and young people who might be experiencing difficulties within the educational setting.\u00a0 Such services include, psycho-education assessments, consultation and the provision of support to students with special educational needs. Students can benefit from this support by means of a referral to the SPS.<\/p>\n

Head of Department – Prefect of Discipline<\/span><\/h1>\n

The Head of Department \u2013 (Prefect of Discipline) collaborates with schools and external entities to help students with behavioural issues and promote positive discipline. They aim to understand each student’s personality, needs, and family situation\u00a0to be able to provide the best support and holistic education. Psychotherapy Services\"\"<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Psychotherapy Services are offered in schools within our college by Ms Marica Busietta and Dr Alessandra Sammut Muscat. The team works together with the students, individually or in groups on several issues, including bereavement, trauma, mental health, emotional issues and other life circumstances that students face. Meetings with parents are also held.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Career Guidance Services<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Career Guidance services offer a variety of initiatives that encourage students to inform themselves and reflect on their future careers and aspirations. We support students in decision-making processes and organise activities such as transition exercises, one-to-one career guidance sessions, subject choice, post-secondary fair and the career exposure experience.<\/p>\n

Early Intervention Service<\/u><\/h1>\n

Early \"\"Intervention Service provides a family centred and holistic support system for children with developmental disabilities or delays in the first five years of life to minimize the delays and maximize the chances of reaching typical milestones in development. It also supports and implements screening procedures to increase the early identification of difficulties. Furthermore, the service provides support to the families of referred children residing, or attending primary school, in the Maria Regina College area. Yearly workshops are being provided to encourage parents of children attending Kinder 1 and Kinder 2 in all of Maria Regina College to enhance their child\u2019s development. Education Support Practitioner (Safe-School Programme)<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The Safe-School Programme focuses on issues related to bullying, child \"\"safety and illicit substances. Ms Cristabel Cutajar Kushta carries out interventions and prevention sessions with children, parents and staff. The aim of these sessions is to support these individuals whilst also increase their confidence and competence in dealing with these issues. Furthermore, the ESP collaborates closely with other professionals and other institutions to guarantee the best possible outcome for the students.<\/p>\n

Conclusion<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
