LEAP meeting with Psycho-social Team and Guidance teachers

On Monday 8th October 2018, the Psycho-social team and the guidance teachers at our college had a meeting with LEAP organisation.

LEAP’s main aim is to fight poverty and social exclusion by facilitating individuals to find employment, reintegrating them back into society and enhance social mobility. LEAP also endeavours to reduce poverty with families from low social economic status through informal/formal education and employment. The organization also aims to facilitate individuals to empower them to take full control of their lives and consequently become active citizens in society.

European School Sports Day Celebration

As in the past two years, Schools at Maria Regina College joined other EU schools in the European School Sport Day (ESSD), an initiative aimed at promoting Physical Activity in schools.   On the 28th September, students took part in 120 minutes of physical activity throughout the day.

Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Sports and Voluntary Organizations, Clifton Grima, visited Gharghur Primary and he thanked the schools for exposing their students to various physical activities which help them develop physical skills especially in agility, balance and coordination.  He also encouraged children to participate in various sports activities.   In fact he did join in the activities with students during the day.

Innovations in the Maltese Education System

Maria Regina College (MRC) parents appreciated all meetings held at the College on September 17th by the Curriculum Department regarding innovations in the Education system in Malta. Kinder and Primary school parents attended sessions at MRC Mosta Secondary Zokrija in the morning. Ms Tania Mangion spoke about Kinder. Director General Mr Stephen Cachia and Director Tano Bugeja conducted the Primary School sessions. They also conducted the evening sessions at MRC Naxxar Middle School for Year 7 and Year 8 parents. Concurrently workshops were held for Year 8 students to empower them to make the subject choice later on this year. The workshops were co-ordinated by the MRC Career Advisors with the help of other psychosocial team members and ST Nicholas College and St Clare College career advisors.

Copenhagen training for the Psychosocial Team

The Maria Regina College Psychosocial Team together with The College Principal, Mr Patrick Decelis, has visited Copenhagen, Denmark, to attend an Erasmus+ funded Training Course entitled Narrative Coaching and Dialogue. The skills learnt will be applied during the services the professionals partake in their work with students.

 

My Journey – Northern College Cluster meeting

Another important Northern College Cluster (MRC, SCC, SNC) meeting. Discussion with DG Stephen Cachia regarding My Journey. Counsellors, Career Advisors, Youth workers joined the three Heads of College Network  and finalised a plan about meetings for all parents and Yr 8 students. These meetings will be held in September 2018.
