The central principle of this championship is to develop student competence in mathematics from the start of schooling by constructive play, thereby motivating and involving them in the learning process. The main objectives of the championship are to:
- promote interest in mental maths;
- develop skills in number and mental maths;
- reinforce the learning of mathematics through play;
- discover and celebrate talent in mental calculation.
Through SuperTmatik there will be differentiation in teaching, greater motivation, ICT in the classroom and definitely learning in a fun way.
What is the SuperTmatik mental maths game?
SuperTmatik is a developmental teaching card game aimed at motivating students to learn and enjoy maths. The product of innovative ingenuity, the SuperTmatik mental maths game is in essence a key teaching tool to improve calculation skills. It is fully differentiated, catering not only for different age groups, but also different levels of ability.
How to participate?
For your students to participate, all you need to do is to register your school for entry into the competition. Once your school has been registered, the next step is to teach students how to play the game and allow them to practise with their peers. The initial stages of the competition are played within the school, and the names of the school finalists are then sent to the championship organisers to be entered to play in the Grand International Online competition. That is all you need to get started!
Last scholastic year at Mellieha Primary School, for the very first time, our head of school Ms Mary Rose Cordina decided to introduce the SuperTmatik game for year 4 students. Class teachers agreed to start preparing children during the scholastic year for this maths game. I have to admit that these were sessions which children and teachers alike used to look forward to. We would like to thank Ms Joanne Vella the Maths support teacher and the Maths support team led by the EO Ms Melanie Sammut for their help and support.
This scholastic year this game was introduced also to our Year 3 and Year 5 students. Two students from each year group participated in this online SuperTmatic mental Maths online completion, in Category 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
Last year Hayden Micallef and Daniel Peterson were chosen to take part in the online SuperTmatik mental Math online competition in Category 2. Hayden placed 1st and Daniel placed 3rd out of 24,830 students from 65 nationalities.
Once again this year Hayden Micallef placed 1st in Category 3 and Daniel Peterson place 6th in the same Category. You are our superheroes. Keep on cultivating this passion for Mathematics. Over all once again Malta placed 3rd. We’re so proud of our students. Keep up the good work teachers. Well done boys!!!
