An Erasmus+ Project which consisted of a training course for Maria Regina College Heads of School called Clear Leadership was held in Gouda, Netherlands earlier this year. A dissemination Seminar was held on July 25th at the Hilltop Gardens in Naxxar, whereby most of Maria Regina College Heads of schools together with the College Principal, Mr Patrick Decelis, spoke about the significance of the training and the positive effect it had on their leadership role.  Dr Frank Fabri, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry for Education and Employment, applauded the initiative taken by Mr Decelis for making good use of Erasmus+ funds in view of bettering the educational services in Malta.  Mr Yvor Broer, the trainer who delivered the course in Gouda, flew to Malta for the event and gave an overview on the systemic approach to Leadership.  All educational leaders were invited to participate in this Seminar. In fact it was very well attended with representatives from other colleges and other professionals from the educational field, including Directors and members of the psychosocial team.

On the occasion of World Ocean’s Day, the Maria Regina College Learning Support Centre students produced marine-themed paintings, which were then presented to the Outpatients Department of Mater Dei Hospital The Learning Support Centre Co-Ordinator together with the staff and students at Learning Support Centre, Naxxar would like to convey their thanks to Arts Council Malta, Prince’s Trust International Achieve Programme Malta, HSBC (Funds International), Mr. Patrick Decelis, the College Principal and Mater Dei Hospital, Malta for their ongoing support through this initiative.

The Maria Regina College Committee which was set up to tackle Absenteeism, met recently to continue to discuss the subject and drawn an Action Plan about curtailing absenteeism in the middle and Secondary Schools of Maria Regina College.

Professional Development for Maria Regina College Leaders

A successful Erasmus+ project took the Heads of Maria Regina College and their College Principal Mr Patrick Decelis to Gouda in the Netherlands for an interesting one-week Professional Development course regarding Clear Leadership.

The intensive week was packed with hands-on activities and group discussions delving into detail about systemic leadership and deep reflections on one’s own leadership skills, especially when facing dilemmas, relationships, communication and power.

One particular session focused mainly on the process of meaning-making when certain challenging instances occur and the power of questions. Bridge-building questions, questions connected to the core task and tools for facilitating dialogue in groups all led to enlightening inputs on how to focus more throughout the day-to-day leadership endeavours.

Reflecting on one’s personal leadership style and developing it further led to systemic coaching and ways how to develop individuals under one’s remit. Thus another session concentrated on working with teams and understanding the phases in team development.

Discussions were enriched with situations endemic to Malta but also with comparisons to Greece and Finland since other participants came from these two countries.

A dissemination seminar will be held on Wednesday 25^th July 2018 between 12 midday and 17hrs. Mr Yvor Broer, course lecturer, has accepted the invitation to give a short presentation.  Course participants will also discuss their experiences.

Congratulations to our students Clyde Grech and Leon Pisani of year 9 who won the Maths Venture 2018 which was held in Citadella Gozo. Our school, Maria Regina College Mosta Secondary (Lily of the Valley) was teamed up with St Monica school and placed first from 15 teams. Well done!

Her Excellency Ms Marie Louise Coleiro Preca visited MRC, Mosta Primary B on 23^rd April 2018 to commemorate World Book Day and launch the National Readathon, organised in collaboration with the National Literacy Agency.  The aim of the Readathon is to foster a love for reading and raise funds for children having eyesight problems.

A number of activities have been held at school in the respective classes and Year groups in conjunction with World Book Day and the reading ambassadors namely, Gilbert Agius (footballer), Christabelle (Malta’s Eurovision 2018 representative) and Keith Demicoli (newscaster) had reading sessions with Year 4 classes.  The President also read a popular Trevor Zahra novel in a Year 5 class and then attended a short programme with all school children in the yard.  She presented a set of books to our school and the school administration reciprocated with a cheque donation to Malta Community Chest Fund and an artistic work done by one of our Year 6 pupils.
