Career Exposure 2016

On Monday the 23rd of May, Maria Regina College organised a certificate ceremony for Year 10 students who participated in the ‘Career Exposure Project’.  224 students spent one full week at various work placements in order to observe other employees at work and had the opportunity to ask questions related to the duties they carry out.  During the month of November, students, had to fill in an application form, attend an interview and if successful  a placement was given to them according to their preference and ranking. Students were able to link school education with employment and work and thanks to this experience, they were able to analyse and evaluate the career they experienced and will be able to make a more informed choice in the near future, when it comes to choosing a Post-Secondary course.

Continual Professional Development – Visit to San Blas Rehab Centre

As part of the continual professional development of the college’s multidisciplinary team – guidance teachers and members of the psychosocial team – the College Meeting held on the 18th of April 2016 took place at San Blas Rehab Centre l/o Haż Żebbuġ.  During this meeting the psychologist in charge of San Blas, Dr Anthony Gatt, gave an explanation of how San Blas operates.  We were given the chance to meet with a number the residents who welcomed us heartily.   Mr Alex Attard, as head of the drug rehabilitation services, gave us an overview of the wide scope of services that Caritas offers in and to the community.

This experience gave us the chance to reflect on the baggage these residents had to start and prolong their drug misuse.  They also explained how difficult it is for them to live a drug-free life; and one can see their effort to do so, especially those who feel the need to return to San Blas for further assistance.  These are people who also have a heart but sometimes when it is severely and continually broken they learn to believe that they are unworthy and Caritas personnel tries its best to heal their pain and give support and restore their hope and self-worthiness.  We can use this experience to instill a positive feeling in the students we educate to help them perceive life’s difficulties as challenges and learning experiences that helps them grow.

The multidisciplinary team members reached for their pockets and in a couple of minutes donated the total of €83 for San Blas, Caritas who thanked all who donated in an official letter.  To view the array of services that Caritas provides one can visit the Caritas website on www.caritasmalta.org.   Finally we would like to formally thank Mr Alex Attard for organising this visit.  Last but not least we would like to thank the College Principal Mr Patrick Decelis for believing in this event and gave us full support.

Kors dwar it-trobbija organizzat mill-Caritas

Fil-bidu ta’ Jannar intbagħtet stedina lill-ġenituri li uliedhom jattendu l-iskola Primarja fil-Kulleġġ Maria Regina.

Ir-rispons kien verament inkuraġġanti għaliex madwar mitt persuna applikaw sabiex jattendu. Għalhekk inħasset il-ħtiega li norganizzaw tliet korsijiet – tnejn qabel l-Għid u ieħor wara l-btajjel tal-Għid.

L-għan ta’ dan il-kors kien sabiex permezz ta’ qsim ta’ esperjenzi l-ġenituri jiskopru metodi differenti u effettivi ta’ trobbija fiż-żmenijet tallum.

Ftit kummenti li l-ġenituri kitbu fi tmiem tal-kors kienu dawn:

  • Kors interessanti ħafna
  • Spjegazzjoni u eżempji tajbin ħafna
  • Kien kors ta’ għajnuna kbira għall-familja tagħna speċjalment il-lezzjoni fuq il-komunikazzjoni fil-familja
  • Il-gruppi ż-żgħar (working groups) għenu ħafna biex jinqasmu l-esperjenzi
  • Il-kors kien wieħed mexxej ħafna u informattiv ukoll mibni fuq esperjenzi rejali
  • L-informazzjoni u n-noti li ngħataw waqt il-lezzjonijiet kienu ħafna relevanti u żgur li ħa tkun referenza tajba fil-futur
  • Wieħed mill-ħafna pariri li se nisħqu fuqu fil-familja tagħna huwa li nuru lit-tifel illi ‘he belongs’, li qegħdin hemm għalih kemm f’sitwazzjoni ta’ suċċess u kif ukoll f’sitwazzjoni li joħolqu aktar sfidi fil-ħajja ta’ kuljum.

Fl-aħħar tal-kors kull parteċipant ingħata ċertifikat ta’ attendenza.

Prosit lil kull min attenda.
